御朱印第17号-神田明神

Goshuin number 17 is from 神田明神 (Kanda Myojin), a shrine in Tokyo. This isn’t just any shrine either. Located near Akihabara, the anime and electronics hub of Tokyo, Kanda Myojin is often labeled as one of the geekiest shrines in Japan, as many of the people that go there are gamers and/or anime lovers.

These tablets are called 絵馬 ema. They are found at shrines, and people write their prayers on them before hanging them up. At Kanda Myojin, one side has been decorated with characters from the anime Love Live! (one of the characters works at the shrine in the anime), and people often draw more characters on the other side!

Catering to their patrons, the shrine even has a charm for sale that will protect your electronic devices from harm! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find this charm… but I did (kinda sorta) get a stamp!

I have no idea why I got this when I asked for a stamp. My friends and I think maybe they didn’t have anyone there at the time that could do the calligraphy part? Oh well, guess I’ll have to go again!
