Can ya guess what I’m about to eat? Hunter and I saw it at the Tsukiji Fish Market and we couldn’t resist…

It’s WHALE!! Yes siree, that is a whale kabob. I saw the kanji for whale (鯨　kujira) and knew I had to try it. Hunter was a little less enthusiastic, and, while he tried a piece, I ended up eating most of it. After eating school lunch for six months here in Japan, you learn to stop thinking about what it is you’re eating and just eat it (I’m lookin’ at you, shishamo… one of these days, I’ll post about my LEAST favorite food in Japan)!

I thought it was delicious; the meat tasted less like fish and more… gamey, like venison. Definitely was not expecting that. Don’t worry, most people in Japan don’t eat whale, and I have never seen it in a supermarket. Some shops that only sell seafood have it (in Tokyo), but that was about it. I’m glad I got to try it though!
