Ohhhh how I love this place <3. Easily one of my favorite spots in Nagano, the slopes of the Kurohime Heights Snow Park are transformed near the end of summer each year into a field of cosmos flowers. I visited a week and a half ago to find that while the cosmos flowers weren’t quite there yet, the dahlias were in full bloom and there was even a small patch of sunflowers!
One of the highlights of the park is riding a chair lift over the flowers. Usually it is over the cosmos, but they changed it this year so the dahlias are planted underneath instead.

The cosmos flowers aren’t quite there yet!
They really upped their game with the dahlias! Not only did the dahlia patch seem much larger this year, they also had signage this time with the name of each type of flower. These were my favorites:
They’re called 織姫 (orihime) dahlias in Japanese. I liked them because they reminded me of small white and orange goldfish.
I’m expecting the cosmos to start really opening up either this weekend or the next, and, barring any typhoon-winds, their peak will probably last until mid/late September.
